boots boots boots
The days are getting longer and the weather warmer, but we are still in the midst of boot season and the style trends are abundant, though maybe a tad overwhelming.
There are so many unique and interesting boots on the market, it would be a disservice not to do a little deep dive into what’s hot right now. So I’ve picked my top 6 to guide you through the plethora of boot options available.
I present to you my 2022 boot round up!
A quick note: I love creating these blogs to give my readers inspiration and knowledge about fashion trends I’m passionate about. I pull a lot of images from Pinterest and my favourite shoe sites and have tagged as many as I can with their original location for credit and in case anyone is truly interested.
That being said, I am just here to inspire and inform. I always promote shopping slow and sustainably and I encourage you to take this blog as inspo and apply it to your own closet, when you’re at the thrift store or browsing Poshmark.
Happy reading!
Square-Toe
If you look at the pages of boot history, right behind the classic pointed-toe stands her sister, the square-toe. What really I love about this shape is that it isn’t pretty in the conventional sense and calls us to dig a bit deeper to see its beauty, which really creates an interesting and unique looking shoe.
I for one am excited to see a resurgence in square-toe boots that have arrived this season in every shape, colour and style.
Big fan of these oil slick booties that are just begging to be worn with every outfit in your closet. The triangular heel pushes these to cool girl level.
If you want to play it safe and just dip your toes in the square-toe trend, these gorgeous burgundy knee-highs are the perfect choice.
Really lean into the square design with the futuristic shape of these booties. Absolutely in love with the punch of baby blue these guys deliver.
Maybe more trapezoid than strictly square, but I love the elegance and distinctive style that these boots possess. Proving that you don’t have to go for a wide toe to get the job done.
western inspired
In case you missed it - cowboy boots have officially made their way back in style.
Though you probably won’t catch me in a pair, there's something about the cowboy boot that feels inspiring. Like the staple boots that came before it (looking at you combat boots) the endless styling opportunities this versatile shoe offers feels exciting and fresh.
The cousin to the pair of burgundy square-toed boots I shared above - these leather beauties keep that classic cowboy style, but feel sophisticated and contemporary with their minimal and lengthened design.
Wide cowboy-inspired boots feel more vintage and less western with the addition of a fluted kitten heel.
A really beautiful take on the western style. The pop of orange and simplified motif makes for a really striking pair of boots, perfect to pair with a light wash straight-leg jean.
Maybe not cowboy in shape but definitely in spirit, these mohair cow print booties are a trendy statement shoe.
embellished
Embellished boots are most definitely this season’s unexpected trend.
After a windfall of practical pandemic shoes, the maximalists and sparkle lovers are going to be happy about this light at the end of the tunnel.
I’ve shared some of the more paired down, accessible looks. But if this is your thing, there are a lot of options out there for you to go wild!
An ankle boot that’s also a loafer?? This pair is what I call understated maximalism. The gorgeous jewelled buckle will add an extra level of finesse to your fit.
These knee-high equestrian inspired boots level up without looking tacky. The trick is the perfectly-draped chunky gold chain that’s balanced by the shape of the boot.
Is it punk or is it country? Either way, these white leather boots make a statement with zips and buckles galore.
lug soles
One of the hottest trends right now, from rain boots to platforms to combat boots, is the lug sole.
These versatile boots have practicality at their heart, as a utilitarian style that is easy to pull onto your feet. The lug sole boots have a platform sole, giving you height without compromising on comfort.
They’re a bold choice without being overbearing, with a minimalism that works with any outfit.
Effortlessly edgy and seriously cool, these mid-calf boots feature a chunky lugged sole that brings that modern utilitarian feel to an otherwise simple design.
Casual yet chic, the lug sole adds modernism to the classic Chelsea boot. These ones feature a caramel colour that sets them apart from your everyday pair and their laid-back appearance makes them the ultimate go-to for a farmer’s market peruse or an afternoon coffee date.
The really great thing about the lug sole is that they’re practical as sneakers. They’re slip-proof and designed to keep your feet comfortable all day long. Whether you prefer to dress them up or down, they’re super versatile in design.
Originally designed in 1930’s for mountain climbing, lug soles have a long standing trend in men’s shoe design. Popping up in stores across the board right now, this is definitely a widely accessible trend for anyone wishing to try it out.
unique heel
Fashion is moving in two directions right now, the pandemic-influenced laid back and casual and the burst of excitement and eccentricity that always follows a period of minimalism.
There has recently been an influx of really interesting heel and platform shapes that have been trickling down from luxury brands, and slowly appearing on the shelves.
Maybe not your new go-to boot, but a great idea for your next shopping day splurge.
These super trendy boots feature a split platform sole and 60’s inspired geometric patterning.
Modern and daring, these black and white statement boots definitely play up the square-toe trend but take it to the next level with the extended sole and unique arch shape.
The unmissable F heel makes these boots a designer dream, giving a nod to the classic YSL design.
