fall fashion favs

Something I really love about fall is that it has the cozy fashion elements of winter but the warmer autumn weather. Which means there’s so much more fun to be had with layering and styling without needing to worry about staying warm.

There are a lot of great trends this season and I love how they all play off each other. Many of them can be combined to make some really great, fresh looks.

baggy denim

Gen-Z has banished skinny jeans from the trend cycle and I’m here for it. But only because I never particularly liked them in the first place. (If you still like your skinny jeans you should wear them!)

Personally I prefer the comfortability that looser jeans afford as well as the wider range of options that are available.

Easily pair your boyfriend jeans (un-ripped) with a blazer, tight-fitting top, and a set of pumps to elevate them to business casual.

A high-waisted pair gives the illusion of a longer leg and the baggy fit flatters a wide variety of body shapes.

oversized blazers

Executive, but make it fashion.

The once pigeonholed blazer is making major inroads this year, and is now more androgynous, laid back and less uptight than ever.

Oversized blazers are also the perfect layer for transitional fall weather — light enough to keep us warm without breaking a sweat while also able to survive particularly chilly days.

Although the dramatic 80s silhouette can be overwhelming, how you style it makes all the difference.

Pair your blazer with some thigh high boots and a button down to play up the twist on corporate attire.

Dress it down with jeans and lots of layers for a more casual daytime look.

Add a pair of sneakers and a hoodie and your blazer becomes a stylish stand-in for a regular coat.

Or throw it over a plain black fit and instantly add a bit of flair - bonus points if it’s a bright colour!

prints everywhere

Dynamic patterns started making a comeback in Spring/Summer and I’m happy to report that they are still at large.

From psychedelic swirls, to checks to 80’s inspired florals - nothing is off limits.

Why choose one when you can wear both? Have fun with prints this season and style yourself a pattern clashing moment.

If you’re looking for an easy entry point, choose two patterns in similar hues. The orange snakeskin and zebra in this look pair seamlessly and the graphic tee pulls the whole outfit together.

Ready to commit? Doing one head-to-toe pattern is always going to make a statement. Choose a printed jumpsuit or a matching top and bottoms.

Use groovy 70’s inspired prints to modernize your look. And don’t be afraid to match with your partner.

Go bold by wearing just one print. Pair it with classic accessories and a statement shoe.

cloud coats

Coat trends are coming in hot this season, but my favourite is the oversized puffer.

I love the street-style feel that accompanies them, making them an effortless addition to any look.

On warmer days, pair your puffer with minimal layers. Add docs and sheer tights to give your look some edge.

Or glam it up with pumps and a cute handbag.

Having a lazy day but still want to look cool? Throw on your oversized puffer and you’re good to go.

Make a statement by choosing your coat in a bright colour. Wear neutrals to let it stand out or go all in with a monochrome look.

one-tone tailoring

Dressing head-to-toe in one colour is an art. Being able to pull it off in a suit is a recipe for a chic and sophisticated look.

One-tone tailoring is making waves in the fashion world as an understated way to make a statement and look effortlessly put-together. Able to go from casual and contemporary to event ready, this is one trend everyone should try.

Choosing a neutral tone is always a safe bet, and this sized-up look is styled to perfection with understated accessories and platform loafers.

Want to take it in a different direction? Revisit your favourite print and go all in. I love the addition of the tie and suspenders that give this look a vintage feel.

Or choose a bold colour and get go for a more tailored fit. Pairing it with a simple tee makes the look feel fresh and modern.

Opt for a contemporary feel with flared bottoms and a two tone colour palette.

textured bags

Luscious textures are the easiest way to add a unique, 3D element to any look. From faux fur, to woven knits to quilted nylon, textured bags have become a moment this season.

Something subtle, like embossed leather, is a simple way to add interest to a purse.

Happy to report that the baguette bag is still in season. Mix it up a bit by choosing one with a ruffled surface.

Shearling is having a moment this fall and yes, that applies to your handbag. Add warmth and style to your look by choosing a fuzzy accessory.

Feel like recycling that classic fall outfit one more time this week? Change it up by pairing it with a contemporary quilted bag.

There you have it - my favourite things about this season’s fashion trends.

Remember, even though you may want to try every single trend, it’s still important to try to buy ethical, buy smart, and buy local! Try not to get sucked into the fast fashion whirlwind of trend cycles and make sure that what you’re buying makes sense for you and your style.
